St James’ Drive

A confident reworking of a Victorian townhouse in South-West London, this whole-home refurbishment and extension blends robust detailing, refined materiality, and spatial clarity.

Delivered in close collaboration with The Vawdrey House, the project saw the transformation of a four-storey family home, reconfiguring circulation, extending the lower ground floor, and unlocking generous volumes throughout.

A new rear extension, constructed in dark engineering brick, anchors the rear elevation, forming a striking backdrop to the open-plan kitchen and dining space within. Here, green panelled joinery, a four-metre island and bespoke window seating create a layered, multifunctional heart of the home, opening onto a stepped garden terrace framed by a mature olive tree.

The lower-ground entrance was reimagined with a bespoke steel gate and arched side door, leading to a refined hall with concealed access to a snug, boot room, and utility space. A new staircase draws light down from the upper levels, softening the transition between old and new.

Upstairs, a zinc-clad dormer extension introduces generous ceiling heights and warehouse-inspired bedrooms for the family’s three children. Across the home, robust finishes, oak, exposed concrete, and reeded glass sit confidently alongside retained period features, delivering a richly textured and contemporary family home.
