Longfield Avenue

An ambitious reconfiguration of a Victorian villa in West London, this project reimagines the home around a sculptural triple-height stairwell, new rear extension, and expansive mansard addition, balancing bold interventions with refined detail.

Working closely with The Vawdrey House, the project began by securing planning consent for a substantial mansard roof extension and enlarged rear addition, enabling a complete transformation of the existing home. The internal layout was entirely restructured, with a new staircase relocated to one side of the plan, creating a dramatic vertical axis through the house and providing a clear view from the entrance to the garden.

At the rear, a stepped extension in blue engineering brick introduces rhythm and contrast against the original stock brick façade. Full-height steel-framed glazing opens onto the garden, while a Corten-framed picture window and exposed brickwork bring texture and warmth. Internally, polished concrete floors, reeded glass panels, and stainless steel detailing sit alongside oak joinery and dusky pink highlights, blending modernity with softness.

The loft conversion, concealed behind a retained roof pitch, delivers lofty new bedrooms and a sculptural master suite, carefully detailed to preserve original cornices and proportions below. The result is a characterful and spatially rich home, defined by light, material integrity, and confident design decisions throughout.
