Four-storey terrace transformation
A bold yet sensitive transformation of a four-storey Victorian terrace in Hammersmith, blending period character with expressive modern interventions.
With The Vawdrey House, we excavated a substantial new basement holding a lounge, guest suite, and concealed utility spaces, entered through a dramatic threshold framed in blackened timber. A wine store sits discreetly within the plan.
At ground level, a new rear and side-return extension clad in warm horizontal timber forms the heart of the home. Polished concrete floors, industrial-style glazing, and a sculptural island bring clarity and rhythm to the kitchen and dining space, which opens directly onto the courtyard garden.
The upper floors keep a more traditional language. Period joinery, restored cornices, and a classic stair balustrade honour the original character of the house.
