Edwardian whole-house refurbishment

A whole-house refurbishment of an Edwardian family home by the river in Barnes, where nearly every fixed element is joinery made for the room it stands in.

Working with The Vawdrey House again, we rebuilt the house floor by floor. The drawing room's panelled ceiling and the staircase with its pierced balustrade were restored, and arched glazed oak doors now open onto a geometric tiled hall.

The rear is now one room for cooking, eating, and sitting: green cabinetry, an island faced in glazed tile under a stone top, and a curved velvet banquette under oak and brass shelving. Tall oxblood cabinets in reeded glass hold the glassware.

Upstairs the joinery turns to walnut and cane: fitted wardrobes and a desk set into the window reveal. One bedroom sits under a brushed-brass barrel vault, and a top-floor bathroom is tiled in blush pink to the eaves.
