Victorian villa reconfiguration
An ambitious reconfiguration of a Victorian villa in west London, rebuilt around a sculptural stairwell, a new rear extension, and a substantial mansard addition.
Working closely with The Vawdrey House, the project began by securing consent for a mansard roof extension and an enlarged rear addition, enabling a complete transformation of the home. The internal layout was restructured around a relocated staircase, creating a dramatic vertical axis and a clear view from the entrance to the garden.
At the rear, a stepped extension in blue engineering brick sets a deliberate rhythm against the original stock brick. Full-height steel-framed glazing opens onto the garden, and a Corten-framed picture window brings texture and warmth.
Inside, polished concrete floors, reeded glass panels, and stainless steel detailing sit alongside oak joinery and dusky pink accents, blending modernity with softness. The loft conversion sits concealed behind the retained roofline.
