Elgin Mews

Mews house reinvention

A complete reinvention of a discreet mews house in west London: quiet restraint outside, richly atmospheric rooms within.

Working with Xami Design Studio, we took the home to four levels, including a newly excavated basement holding a gymnasium and an immersive cinema room.

A new staircase in oak and blackened steel forms the spine of the house, lit from above by an oversized rooflight and detailed with minimal glass balustrading.

At first floor, a green-stone kitchen anchors the open-plan living space, combining dark cabinetry, brass fixtures, and a herringbone splashback. Bold colour blocking, natural oak, and honed marble carry the balance of drama and calm through to the deep claret cinema and crisply detailed bathrooms.
